QUESTIONS
FAQ
Recipe Vault is free and requires no sign-up. Just visit the app and start by giving your recipe library a name. You're then ready to add recipes.
To add your first recipe: Click "Add Recipe" and choose to type it in manually or paste a link. Fill in the title, ingredients, and directions. You can also add optional details like prep time, cook time, servings, cuisine, meal type, and tags to help organize your collection.
Once you've added a few recipes, they'll appear in your library where you can search, filter, and organize them however you like.
When editing a recipe, you can reorder ingredients and directions by using the up and down arrow buttons next to each line. Select the ingredient or direction you want to move, then click the arrow to shift it up or down in the list.
To edit directions: Click into the directions section and use the arrow controls next to each step to reorder them. You can also edit the text of any step by clicking on it directly.
This is helpful if you're copying a recipe from a source and want to reorganize it to match your preferred cooking flow.
To plan meals: Go to the Meal Plan section and select a date. Then choose a recipe from your library to assign to that date. Recipe Vault will automatically create a calendar event for that meal, and you can see your upcoming meals at a glance.
Sync with Hearth: If you use Hearth (our family organizer), your meal plans from Recipe Vault sync automatically. Your meal plan events will appear on your Hearth calendar, giving your whole household a unified view of what's cooking this week.
This keeps meal planning centralized and makes it easy for everyone in your home to see what's happening in the kitchen.
To create a shopping list: Once you've assigned recipes to dates in your meal plan, click "Generate Shopping List." Recipe Vault will automatically pull all the ingredients from those recipes and combine them into one list.
Smart consolidation: If multiple recipes call for the same ingredient (like butter or garlic), Recipe Vault combines them intelligently. It also handles unit conversions automatically—so if one recipe needs 1 cup of flour and another needs 8 ounces, it consolidates them into one line with the total you need.
Send to Hearth: Click "Send to Hearth" to push your consolidated shopping list directly into Hearth's shopping list feature. It creates a dated list (like "Recipe Vault — August 1st") so you keep track of which meal plan it came from. You can check off items as you shop, and if you need to add or remove recipes from your meal plan, just regenerate and resend—Recipe Vault will update the list accordingly.
This keeps your whole household organized and makes grocery shopping efficient.
